Description
Night porch adorned by plants, moths swarm around a lamp. Three children sitting at the table, a dog nearby, a woman serves tea. An idyll? I drew this illustration for my novel long before I had a family. The drawing was very sad, partly because the woman thought of the distant stars of the vast universe. For everyone, she was a hostess, a mom, a kitchen appliance… and she dreamed of going to the far away stars, but couldn’t. Will the stars always wait for her? Everyone has the right to choose, the right to create their own life at their own discretion. But circumstances, including social conventions, and our previous decisions often restrict that choice drastically. The artwork also inspired by the song “My house is flying” by Veronica Dolina.
Mostly done in 1990, a few finishing touches recently.
Soft pastel, watercolour and ink on brown card, varnished.
Frame and Enjoy!
